HMD to manufacture Nokia phones in Europe; details inside

Nokia handsets will be manufactured in Europe for the first time by HMD Global, which is the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer.

HMD plans to invest in facilities from this point forward as part of a gradual process of moving 5G Nokia smartphones to Europe. The process (naked url) will begin in Q3 of this year.

“We are very pleased to announce this first step in our journey to bring 5G device manufacturing to Europe.” Jean-Francois Baril, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of HMD Global said.

“The Nokia brand has a proud history within the European market, and with this move we are continuing to strengthen our position as the only major European smartphone provider.” he added.

In addition to reducing its carbon footprint and making sure its phones are secure and private, HMD sees a spike in demand for its smartphones in Europe.

In order to comply with stringent stipulations in the European Union, HMD has positioned its data centers in Finland since 2019.
